Thank goodness for grandparents....

We have been so blessed to have helpers these first two weeks of your life. The first week of your life your grandma Dorsey stayed with us. Then your grandma & grandpa Wimmer came to visit over the weekend along with your aunties Shannon & Kate and your grandpa Dorsey. This week your grandpa Dorsey has been staying with us. Next, we are all heading back to Nebraska to meet more of your family and enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday. So many people adore you and want to meet you. We are such a lucky family to have so many wonderful people in our lives.

Happy 1 week birthday!

Hi precious baby! You are one week old today and wow what an adventure. I am full of so much emotion, love, and eagerness to be the best mommy I can be to you. I have forever worked with children, but I must say it's so different you being my own. Let's start back to one week ago- At this time last Friday I was laying in the hospital bed chatting with Team Harper (see previous photo) relaxing with the best drug invented (epidural). Previous to having an epidural I was contracted and in pain for 4 hours. Finally I requested the drug and all was well. At around 2:45 pm last Friday is when I started the pushing process. I pushed for about 2 and 1/2 hours and then you were born at 4:21 p.m. Towards the end of the pushing, I could tell your doctor and Team Harper were getting a bit nervous. Your head was facing upward making it hard for you to get over my pelvic bone. Your heartrate started to decel a bit and the doctor mentioned C-section. This is when your momma buckled down and pushed hard enough for your 8 lb 10oz body to enter this world. You pooped in your sac (just like your momma did in her momma's sac) so they rushed you away to the other side of the room to suction out your lungs. It was such an amazing experience to give birth to you! The next days to come this past week have been mostly focused around feeding you. I am trying to breastfeed you but it has been quite the process. You are a hungry baby and my milk supply is not enough to suffice your needs. (and took forever to come in-still not sure if its in or not) We are trying to figure this whole breastfeeding process together which at times can be frustrating for the both of us. When I get frustrated it's not at you, rather the fact that my body isn't doing what it's supposed to do to feed you properly. With patience and help from your dad and grandmother we are working hard to meet your needs. We have been soooo lucky to have your grandma Dorsey here this week. She is our saving grace and has been so patient with my hormonalness. Oh how she adores you! Your dad said to me last night, "I never thought I'd smile when someone farted on me." He loves and adores you as do I. He is so amazing with you. We love your little gizmo sounds, your yawns, your hiccups, the way you put your fist in your mouth and then figured out how to just get one finger in, your bright eyes, your sneezes, really every little thing about you, WE LOVE and ADORE! We could never be more happy to have you in our lives.
Love,
your momma

Induction...and not into the hall of fame...

Although really after giving birth all mommas should be inducted into some sort of Hall of Fame:)

Well, you decided not to come play with us on your own, therefore we go in tonight to the hospital to start the process to be induced using cervidel which is supposed to help loosen my cervix. If nothing happens, then tomorrow is when they start the full on induction with a medicine called pitocin. For the past four days your father is like a dead man walking, super sicky, so we are trying to nurse him back to health at light speed rate so he is better by the time you arrive. See ya real soon. We love you!

in the meantime...

You are 3 days past your due date and we are patiently waiting for your arrival. In the meantime here's what we've been doing....
Friday: I discovered two mice in our house and freaked out calling your dad at work and your aunt Shannon to share the experience with her. Your dad brought home mice traps and set them up in the garage. Your dad's friend Jared & Dawn (who he has known since junior high or so) and their son Hayden came to stay at our house.

Saturday: We went to Hayden's soccer games in Olathe. After the game we tried to find a spot to watch the Husker's play KU but were unsuccessful due to high volumes of people at bars watching the game on paperview (Huskers beat KU)...We settled to eat lunch at a sports bar with no sker's to watch. Your dad and I came home and lounged on the couch watching movies! Your dad hunted mice this day too and caught three....

Sunday: Watched Hayden play soccer, his team got second place. Your dad started to not feel well and went to bed early... I scrapbooked.

Today: I have been trying to nurse your dad to health, giving him drugs & fluids. I had a melt down while he was sleeping... three mice were running around the living room. First I stood on the couch and called my sister...then decided to try and wake your dad up... (NO LUCK)...then called your grandmother Dorsey to complain about the critters...and then resorted to waking up your father. He was a trooper and set more traps around the house. While he was setting traps, I was sitting at the kitchen table and here came a little mouse who crawled between my feet. I instantly screamed and put my legs in the air, but it seems that my pregnant body would't allow my legs to stay in the air for very long due to my belly getting tense....(sorry for all the commotion) Your dad then cornered the little mouse and caught it. He placed it outside with the other three that were caught this weekend. And now, your dad is back in bed and I am decompressing about the whole mice experience all the while seeing little flashes of what I think are mice but it's probably just my imagination... (or is it??) And just now, I heard one of the traps clap loudly in the garage. Poor little fellas, I'm a bit torn between feeling sorry for the little critters and my own anxiety about them running around the house...in the end the reality is Fievel(s) needs to go West......

p.s. if you don't arrive on your own by Thursday we are going to the hospital Thursday night @ 8pm to be induced on Friday morning...see ya soon:)

@ 36 weeks

When you were 36 weeks in my tummy, your dad and I met up with Uncle Gary and Aunt Kathy in Omaha, Ne. They currently live in Richmond, CA and were in town visiting family. They were also in town because Uncle Gary and Uncle Charles (who lives in Indiana) were being inducted into their High School Hall of Fame. (Lincoln High) I also met Cousin William (who lives in San Diego) for the first time which was nice. Cousin William came to town to support the family:)
Your dad and I visited Uncle Gary and Aunt Kathy in California several times last year. It was always a blast eating home cooked meals made by Uncle Gary, drinking a variety of wines, playing dominos, and touring around the area where they live. This visit was just as much of a blast as the times in Cali!

Correction

Your mommy is a bit coo-coo. All along I have been telling folks that you are due Friday, Nov. 7th, 2008. You are actually due on Saturday Nov. 8th, 2008. The other week our doctor gave us paperwork to bring with us to the hospital. I was looking over it and noticed the due date. So all along I've been a day off-oooppsss. So as of today three days to go....(or more if you decide to stay in a bit longer:)
Love you!

The Good Life...

Your father and I drive by this sign everytime we come to Nebraska from Kansas City. Each time it seems that I comment on how I want a picture with the sign. This time it was successful, BARELY... your dad had to off road and slow down just in time for us to quickly hop out of the truck and capture this shot. It was quite the scene but well worth it!

I love Fall: the season not the apartment comlex:)

This is the tree that sits in our front yard, that I love so much with her bright yellow leaves. As I sit on the couch every morning, I get to see this lovely piece of nature. That is until the leaves fall off her and it becomes blistering cold, it is then that I will be day dreaming of California winters....
